2 DAYS · 1 NIGHT · $250 UWA PERMIT INCLUDED

Kibale Forest
Chimp Tracking

The highest density of chimpanzees in East Africa. You follow their sounds first.

THE EXPERIENCE

You do not find chimpanzees by looking. You find them by listening.

Kibale National Park has over 1,500 chimpanzees and 12 other primate species. The tracking begins at 8am when rangers follow the chimps from the trees where they slept. You hear the screams and hoots before you see anything. When you find them it is chaos — chimps moving fast through the canopy, dropping to the ground, chasing each other, grooming, feeding.

The $250 UWA chimpanzee tracking permit is included in your package. Add the chimp habituation experience for $250 extra — a full day with a research group following a semi-habituated chimp community. Fewer people know about this. It is a completely different quality of encounter.

Kibale is 5 hours from Kampala and combines naturally with Queen Elizabeth for a 5-day trip or Bwindi for a full primate circuit.
