QUESTIONS TRAVELERS ASK BEFORE BOOKING

Honest answers to the questions most operators dodge.

How much is a gorilla permit in Uganda for 2026?

$800 per person during peak season. $600 during low season in April, May, and November. This fee is set by the Uganda Wildlife Authority and goes directly to conservation and ranger salaries. It is non-negotiable regardless of which operator you book with. At Unfiltered Uganda, the permit is included in your package price, confirmed with UWA before you pay us, and evidenced in writing.

Is gorilla trekking in Uganda better than Rwanda?

Uganda charges $800. Rwanda charges $1,500. The gorilla is the same animal. The forest is the same forest. Rwanda has smoother infrastructure and shorter average trek times. Uganda has harder terrain and a longer drive from Kigali or Entebbe. If budget is a factor, Uganda wins by $700 per person. We are not a neutral party here. We are Ugandan.

How fit do you need to be for Bwindi?

Honest answer: the trek ranges from 1 to 8 hours depending on where the gorilla family is that morning. You do not know in advance. The terrain is steep, wet, and dense. Travelers in their 60s and 70s complete it regularly. What matters more than fitness is mentality. Porters are available for hire at the trailhead for around $15. They carry your bag and physically support you on difficult sections. Book one.

How many days do you actually need for a Uganda safari?

Five days minimum to do one park properly without spending half your trip in a vehicle. Seven to ten days lets you combine two parks. Fourteen days covers gorillas, chimps, Murchison Falls, and Entebbe without rushing anything. The most common mistake first-time visitors make is packing too many destinations into too few days. We will tell you honestly when your itinerary is too ambitious.

Is Uganda safe for solo travelers in 2026?

Uganda is one of the most stable and safe countries in East Africa for international travelers. The national parks are well managed by UWA rangers. Thousands of solo travelers, including solo women, visit every year. We are based in Kampala and give every traveler an honest, current briefing before their trip. If there is anything specific you are concerned about, ask us directly.
